The p53 family network

We define the overlapping and isoform-specific functions of p53, p63 and p73 in tumor suppression, development and stress responses.

p53, p63 and p73 share a conserved DNA-binding framework but differ in isoform structure, developmental functions and target-gene selection. The laboratory dissects these similarities and differences to understand how the family acts as an integrated regulatory network.

This programme uses genetically defined systems to study transcription, apoptosis, senescence, differentiation and tumor suppression, including the ways mutant p53 can interfere with p63- and p73-dependent programs.
