Ninjurins and translational oncology

We study p53–NINJ1/2 feedback loops, inflammation and cell adhesion, then test pathway-derived peptides as potential therapeutic tools.

NINJ1 and NINJ2 are cell-adhesion proteins with context-dependent roles in tissue injury, inflammation and tumorigenesis. The laboratory investigates their reciprocal regulation with p53 and how Ninjurin interactions influence cancer progression and metastasis.

A translational direction develops peptides derived from NINJ1 and NINJ2 that disrupt their interaction, induce p53 and suppress cancer-cell growth. Comparative oncology offers a route to evaluate concepts in naturally occurring canine disease.
